The Royal Coastal Walk recce

A gorgeous practice run on South Coast NSW’s most beautiful coastline.

The much-anticipated Coastal Classic trail running event I signed up for a few months ago is fast approaching. A week before the event (Saturday, 27 August), Yanti and I decided to drive down an hour from Sydney to Otford to do a bit of practice running and explore part of the 29km route.

We started out at Otford Lookout point which was one entry into the Royal National Park. It had quite a stunning view of the South Pacific Ocean. The event organiser had even already propped up a sign alerting visitors that our event was going to be held the next week, so as runners we would have to be mindful and respectful of walkers and hikers who would be in the area as we were sharing the trails.

We didn’t really have an idea how far we would run during that practice day – so we took it as it came along. The trail was a mix of fire trail, rain forest, sandy beaches, green hills and flat lands.

We  made it all the way to just before Little Garie Beach where we sat down for a minute to refuel and enjoy the view, before we made a U-turn back Otford Lookout.

We managed to cover almost 15km worth of trail, to and fro. There was no way that we could cover all 29km of the route till Bundeena where the finish line was going to be as we didn’t have enough time.

We saw many people who either ran or hiked the route, it was a pleasant day to be out with temperatures starting out in the low teens and reaching the high teens by midday.

I ran with my Sony Action Cam to capture the all the sceneries that I could manage, I knew it was going to be breathtaking.

Apparently according to Yanti, the scenes that we didn’t get to see beyond Little Garie Beach were even more stunning, so I guess I’ll have to wait till race day to see them for myself!
